Where the river meets the hills
A hotel between the river and the mountains, ten minutes from Dal Lake.
08:00 · Morning on the Jhelum

Lake and Leaf sits on a bend of the Jhelum in Rajbagh. The river runs below the windows, the Zabarwan hills rise behind it, and Dal Lake is ten minutes away.
We built it for slow mornings and unhurried days: kahwa in the café, long lunches in the restaurant, and evenings on the terrace while the chinars catch the last of the light.
Close enough to the city to walk to it. Quiet enough to forget it is there.

The river on one side, the mountains on the other.
Windows on the Jhelum or the Zabarwan range. Quiet, warm, and made for slow mornings.
Room for everyone, and a view for everyone too.
Generous rooms for families travelling together, with space to spread out after a long day in the valley.
Our two most private rooms.
The most private rooms in the house. More space, more light, and the best of the views across the river towards the hills.

11:00 · A sense of place
From here, Srinagar is easy. The lake in the morning, lunch in Lal Chowk, the Mughal gardens in the afternoon, and back to the river by dusk.

Green, quiet and lived in. A bend of the Jhelum lined with gardens and old chinars, a short walk from the city's bridges.

Cross a bridge and you are among wooden houses, spice sellers and the bazaars below the fort on Hari Parbat.

The hills that frame Srinagar to the east. Snow on their shoulders in winter, and gold light on them every evening.
“If there is a paradise on earth, it is here, it is here, it is here.”
A Persian couplet, long said of Kashmir
13:00 · A day in the valley
Srinagar rewards an early start and a late night. A few of the moments we hope you will find, from the lake at dawn to the houseboats at dusk.

A restaurant, a café and a terrace, each with its own pace. Stay in, or come by from the city.

01 / 03 · Breakfast, lunch and dinner
Wazwan on a winter night. Dal and rice on a Tuesday. Pasta when the children ask.
One kitchen, many cuisines. Kashmiri classics sit beside North Indian, continental and the dishes guests miss from home.

02 / 03 · All day
Kahwa, saffron and almonds, poured slowly.
Coffee, kahwa and something baked, in a corner of the house made for reading, waiting out the rain, or planning tomorrow.

03 / 03 · Best at sunset
The river below. The Zabarwan above. Tea in between.
Our open terrace is where the day ends. Watch the light leave the hills, then stay for dinner under the sky.
